Jeff Stephens replied to Jeff Stephens's discussion Google Adwords in the group Freelance Marketing
"I have definitely focused on the organic optimization more than anything else--and that does help a lot. It's cool that you've experimented, and super cool that you promote the Emancipated Artist on your own website too!"

Jeff Stephens replied to Jeff Stephens's discussion Google Adwords in the group Freelance Marketing
"Great, thanks John! It seems Adwords is one of those things where on one hand, it's definitely "learnable" with books and websites to give you some training, but on the other hand it could be a very expensive way to do trial and error!"

Jeff Stephens replied to will's discussion Amateur or not?

Digimarc/ImageSpan Webcast: Driving New Revenue from the Web - A Media Archive's Story at Online + Telephone Audio

June 8, 2010 from 10am to 11am
The Missouri History Museum wanted to leverage the power of the Web to extend its reach globally online, enabling anyone in the world to quickly find and license their images and other digital assets. In addition to driving new revenues from its extensive archive, the museum sought to balance an increased presence online with protection of assets from unauthorized use. Another goal was to reduce overhead costs associated with complex, manual licensing transactions.See how LicenseStream Content…See More

A little levity: "clients from hell," and "I am the client!"

I wanted to share a little levity with you on this fine Wednesday afternoon. Running a freelance creative shop or small agency can definitely have its ups and downs. Keep it all in perspective. These two websites are funny and lighthearted ways to see both sides of the client/agency relationship. Enjoy!

The Right Place at the Right Time

When you're marketing your services as a freelancer, there's a lot to be said for being at the right place at the right time. You'll be surprised how many times you'll contact a prospect who will say "you have great timing--we were just talking about how we need some help." And every time that happens, it will put a smile on your face.

So how do you make that happen as much as possible? By marketing yourself consistently and frequently. Even if it's just a few contacts a…

Marketing: Do It When You're Busiest

One thing that I learned as a freelancer was one very important rule...and it's a little counterintuitive. The marketing rule of thumb is that it's most important to market yourself when you're at your busiest.

Why?
Because marketing is like planting seeds, watering them and watching them grow into plants that you can harvest later. In other words, it doesn't happen overnight. The problem with waiting until you're slow to start your marketing efforts, is…
